JCT600 directors climb Ben Nevis in aid of the Bradford Burns Unit. Fifteen directors from JCT600 in Bradford are planning to climb Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, to raise funds for the Bradford Burns Unit and mark the 25th anniversary of the Bradford City fire.
Chief executive John Tordoff will be leading his team on the 1,344m ascent on 24th May. John, his brother Ian and father Jack were all at Valley Parade football stadium on 11 May 1985 when a fire broke out during a match between Bradford City and Lincoln city, killing 56 spectators and injuring more than 190 people.
The Yorkshire company is supporting the £100,000 appeal launched by Bradford City FC to help save the Bradford Burns Unit which was set up at Bradford University following the fire and is now facing closure. JCT600 has pledged to raise £5,000 in sponsorship to help to save the city’s burns research unit.
“Having been at the stadium with my family when the fire broke out, it is a tragedy that has particular poignancy for us even 25 years later,” explained John Tordoff, chief executive of JCT600. “Set up in the aftermath of the fire, the Burns Unit carries out pioneering work. Once again, the city is joining forces to support this world-renowned facility and we are calling on our friends, customers and suppliers to help by sponsoring us.”
